The success of the first edition in June has inspired Turismo Valencia to repeat the ‘Valencia Cuina Oberta-Restaurant Week’ initiative between 16 and 22 November.
During that week, the best restaurants in the city will offer prepared menus at special prices. Turismo Valencia has now opened the registration period for those restaurants which want to take part in the project, which enjoys the collaboration of the Hotel and Catering Business Federation of Valencia and Province (FEHVP).
The event allows Valencia residents to again sample the dishes of such renowned chefs as Javier Salvador (La Sucursal), Alejandro del Toro (Restaurante Alejandro) and Bernd Knöller (Riff), at a very appetising price. These chefs, all three honoured with a Michelin Star, prepared special ‘Cuina Oberta’ (Open Kitchen) menus for the first edition and are likely to repeat in November.
The inaugural event in June was very well received by the general public and participating restaurants, so the expectations of Turismo Valencia for the second edition are quite high. The 52 restaurants involved served nearly 6,000 Cuina Oberta menus for a total value approaching 180,000 euros. In addition, 100% of the participating restaurants rated the initiative as “good or excellent” in a post-event survey carried out by the Turismo Valencia Foundation.
The managing director of Turismo Valencia, José Salinas, recalled that Valencia was the first city in Spain to hold such an event, imported from cities such as New York and London which celebrated them annually with very good results. “We are attempting to stimulate and encourage tourism in the city with this initiative and promote the hotel and catering sector among Valencia residents. It is necessary to search for new attractions for promoting the city and gastronomy is becoming one of the best Valencia has to offer, both for the quality and know-how of its restaurants which are becoming known to the world’, he added.
Turismo Valencia created a printed guide and the www.valenciacuinaoberta.com website for the first edition which contained the list of participating restaurants, their contact information and the menu offered by each restaurant. The same features, with all the relevant new information included, will be available in November.
