Between 16th and 22nd November, the 54 participating restaurants served a total of 14,300 meals, 60 % of which were served at lunchtime and 40 % at dinner.

During today’s Valencia Restaurant Week 2009 Best Menu Awards Ceremony, Tourism Valencia has revealed the balance of the second edition of ‘Valencia Cuina Oberta-Restaurant Week’, which was met with great success by the public, as shown by the 140% increase in the number of meals served in relation to the previous edition: a total of 14,300 meals (60 % lunches and 40 % dinners).

As Jose Salinas, the managing director the Foundation explained, during the first edition, held in June and the first of its kind to be held in Spain, around 6,000 meals were served, representing some 200,000 Euros. During this edition, which took place between 16th and 22nd November, the 54 participating establishments registered a total income of 420,000 Euros, giving a total economic impact for both editions of Valencia Restaurant Week of 600,000 Euros.

“A resounding success”
Salinas claimed that this data demonstrates “the resounding success of an initiative that has been consolidated in Valencia, making clear the commitment of both the sector and the public to an event aimed at promoting the sector in Valencia by opening the city’s restaurants to Valencians and tourists alike”. Additionally, the managing director revealed that the satisfaction surveys carried out by Turismo Valencia among the participating restaurants showed that more than 70% gave the initiative a global rating of “excellent”, while more than 85% considered the dates chosen, the material designed for the event and its promotion as “good or excellent”. Mr Salinas also mentioned that 97% of those consulted claimed that they will participate in the next edition of ‘Valencia Restaurant Week’.

This success has been also reflected in the Internet, with significant increases in the number of visits and feedback from users in relation to the previous edition. Whilst www.valenciacuinaoberta.com registered 12,500 visits in June, this edition saw the figure rise to 50,500, and the number of members of the Facebook group rose from 555 to more than 3,000.
